PHYS 351 Mindfulness Wheel
Final Presentation & Demo Guide
Rundown (40 Minutes)
The final evaluation for the Wheel project will adhere strictly to the following schedule. Please ensure your team manages time effectively to cover all Design Depth requirements.
Video: 2 minutes (Video playback max 1 min)
Presentation: 18 minutes
Demo: 5 minutes
Interaction: 10 minutes
Q&A: 5 minutes
Part 1: Short Video (2 Minutes Allocated)
While 2 minutes are allocated to set up, the video file itself must be no longer than 60 seconds. This is not a technical lecture but a creative hook. You may use AI tools (like Sora) to enhance creativity.
The video must:
Team Intro: Must show every member’s face and clearly state their role (Electronics, Firmware, Test/UX).
The Hook: A one-sentence introduction covering the product name and the story.
Show the Product: Visually demonstrate the device in a way that people understand what it is immediately.
Creativity: Grab the viewer’s attention/interest right away without revealing every detail.
Part 2: Presentation (18 Minutes)
The presentation must be delivered by the entire team. Speaking time must be distributed evenly (approx. 6 minutes per person; no less than 5, no more than 7 minutes each).
Content Guidelines: While you must cover the content areas below, the sequence is up to the team. Structure the flow to tell a unique and cohesive story.
Introduction: Title slide including team headshots, roles and product name.
The Story & User: Define the Target User and the "Why." This narrative should be artistic and engaging—even if the story is fictional, it should be compelling enough to hold the audience’s attention.
Design Process: Slides dedicated to your overall design workflow.
Electronics (Min. 3 Slides): Technical details of the electronic engineering, system architecture, power tree, and safety implementation.
Hardware (Min. 3 Slides): Hardware design, mechanical assembly, and the dual-rotor system.
Firmware/Logic (Min. 3 Slides): Software coding, the logic behind the features, input modality, and the creative process of mapping inputs to outputs.
The Journey (Min. 2 Slides): Discuss the process of making the project happen. Use resources from your weekly updates (YouTube clips, photos) to fill this in.
Conclusion: End on a high note. Each team member must explicitly state what they have learned from this project.
Part 3: Demo (5 Minutes)
The team must perform a live, detailed demonstration. This is not just about the exterior look; you must demonstrate the internal functioning of the mindfulness project.
Visualizing Internals: Use photos, videos, or a live feed to show how the insides work.
Live Projection: A projector is available. Teams are highly encouraged to connect a phone camera (via USB-to-HDMI) to project live, close-up details of the mechanics and electronics.
Readiness: Ensure you have all necessary dongles, cables, and equipment ready to go immediately.
Core Functionality: Demonstrate the dual-rotor motion, accuracy, message generation, and E-stop safety.
Part 4: Interaction (10 Minutes)
The instructional team and peers will now interact directly with the product.
Participants: The Professor, 3 TAs, and at least 1 member from a different team (Total approx. 5-6 people).
Timing: Budget approximately 1–2 minutes per person.
Data Recording: The team must have a method to record the results of each person’s interaction (e.g., logging the seed/message generated for that specific user).
Experience Check: Instructors will evaluate the "feel" of the motion and the appropriateness of the message.
Part 5: Q&A (5 Minutes)
The final 5 minutes are reserved for the instructional staff to ask technical questions regarding component choices, code logic, safety handling, and design decisions.
